Bridge Communities

For there will never cease to be poor in the land, therefore I command you “You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needs and the poor, in your land”

Deuteronomy 15:11

Connecting Families Facing Homelessness to a Better Future

Bridge Communities is a dynamic, grassroots, non-profit organization committed to transforming the lives of families facing homelessness through partnering with talented, resourceful individuals and groups in our community. Our program of housing, mentoring, and empowering families focuses on moving them towards a goal of self-sufficiency and serves 100+ families every year.

Based in Glen Ellyn, Bridge Communities works with local faith-based groups like Our Lady of Mercy in providing transitional housing to homeless families in DuPage County to get the support they need for a fresh start.
By providing shelter, furnishings, job training, daycare and tutoring to children, counseling, legal and financial support, the Bridge Communities network teaches life skills necessary for independence and breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness. With weekly visits from mentors from the parish, our sponsored family will receive the support and advice they need to transition to a self-supporting lifestyle. Over a two-year period, the sponsored family will have better job skills, find productive work, learn how to seek responsible childcare, erase or reduce existing debt, and build a secure and better future for their family.
