Congratulations on your engagement!
The Bible describes God’s plan for marriage as a grace for a happy life and sign of Christ’s faithful and fruitful love for his Bride, the Church. We at Our Lady of Mercy are excited for you to grow in this love and understanding.
This is one of the most exciting (and hectic) seasons in your life. Let us help you get ready for more than just the wedding day.
Please refer to our Marriage Preparation Guidebook as well as the Marriage Preparation Steps to assist you during this important time of your life.

Complete Engaged Encounter Weekend
Couples are given an opportunity to step away for their hectic schedule to focus on each other and the time the relationship deserves. At the end of the weekend you will be provided with a certificate to bring to the church office and put in the wedding file.
Attend a Natural Family Planning Course
Every engaged couple is required to attend a course on Natural Family Planning (NFP). In NFP couples are taught to understand and live God’s design for married love. NFP methods promote a holistic approach to family planning which both respects procreation and has the potential to deepen the intimacy of husband and wife. At the end of the session a certificate will be provided that must be brought to the church office and kept in the wedding file.

Contact (Priest or Deacon) who will preside at your Celebration of Marriage
If the Marriage celebration will occur at OLM, call (630) 851-3444. If the celebration is at another location or will be presided by someone outside of OLM, then the couple must arrange for a meeting directly.
√Contact within six months of wedding date to finish necessary paperwork.
√Additional meetings are determined on a case-by-case basis.
√The planning of the liturgy will be completed and turned in to the church at least four weeks prior to the wedding.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
As the marriage date approaches, couples are highly encouraged to prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage by celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
√The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available every Saturday at 3 p.m. or by appointment with the priest.
√It is recommended the couples individually receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation from the priest who will preside at the wedding.
Couples will be contacted by the Wedding Coordinator when they are within 6 months of their wedding date. Arrangements will be made to schedule a date to meet at the church to prepare and rehearse for the wedding.
