In his homily over the weekend Fr. Mark mentioned the importance of knowing the context of when the Ten Commandments were given. God delivered the Israelites from slavery and bondage, and therefore, does not give the Ten Commandments in order to restrict us again. Fr. Mark encouraged us to approach the Ten Commandments as gifts rather than restrictions.
