Happy end of July soon to be August!
Summer is in full swing. Iced coffee, iced tea, iced cream…now is when we start searching for things that will cut through the heat and refresh us. What about refreshing our community and neighborhood parish life?
Here are 7 refreshing reasons to come out on Friday 8/20th through Sunday 8/22nd! Please don’t forget to invite your entire neighborhood!
1. Outdoor Free Movie Night
FRIDAY 8/20TH
When was the last time we watched a free movie outdoors on a brand new film about a true and inspiring hero?
- Parking lot opens up at 7pm
- Movie starts at sunset estimated at 7:45pm
- Bring your folding chairs, lawn blankets, and dinner! Oh and bug spray! Think Ravinia style set-up/gathering.
- There will be a popcorn stand and cotton candy stand for the children.
We are a society starved of good role models and heroes, come out and be inspired by TWO CROWNS a docu-movie on Saint Maximilian Kolbe, a 20th century saint, whose faith life started with the vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the young age of 12 and how he lived up to the message she gave him.

2. Two Simple Words: Food Trucks!
SATURDAY 8/21ST
No need to decide on what’s for dinner Saturday 8/21st!
- Go to Mass @ 4pm and then check out the variety of Food Trucks for dinner and dessert @ 5pm.
- Face painting and balloon art, along with MVP Balloon Art and Magic Show by 12-year-old Madeline Victoria Pacheco and 9-year-old Maxamiliano Victor Pacheco for the children!
- Bring your folding chairs, lawn blankets, and bug spray! Think Ravinia style set-up/gathering.
3. Live Music – Free Concert!
SATURDAY 8/21ST
When was the last time we were able to go to an outdoor concert?
- Starts at 6pm with a family-friendly concert, featuring Josh Goodman and a Few Good Men with an eclectic mix of children-friendly music, popular music as well as Christian music.
- Children be prepared to be invited to sing and dance in front of the stage area!
- We will also hear from Father Don and Father James as well!
4. Groups & Ministries that are here to serve you
SUNDAY 8/22ND
Stop by the PLC Parish Life Center for the MINISTRY EXPO and converse with people from the Ministries and Groups we have at Our Lady of Mercy. See how our parish can be here for you spiritually, physically, and mentally!
5. Free Cookies & Donut Sunday!
SUNDAY 8/22ND
Have some delicious cookies or donuts from the bakery around the corner from “Ciambella Bakery” as you check out the Groups & Ministries in the Parish Life Center (PLC).
6. An all-ages community-wide event
I can invite my neighbor, co-workers, friends, and my children’s friends as well to this outdoor gathering.
7. And last but not the least, of the 7 refreshing reasons to come out… simply put — we miss your presence!
So here’s to seeing you at the OLM Block Party where we can have to time dwell, celebrate the blessing of life, being able to hang out together, striving to live within the Heavenly Father’s Love as a parish community serving each other with love.
