All Souls’ Day & the Gift of a Plenary Indulgence 11/2

On All Souls’ Day, the Church invites us to a beautiful act of love: by visiting a church and praying the Our Father and the Creed, along with confession, Holy Communion, prayer for the Pope’s intentions, and detachment from sin, we may obtain a plenary indulgence for the souls in purgatory.

A plenary indulgence is the complete remission of all temporal punishment due to forgiven sins. Offered for our departed loved ones, it is a way of helping them draw nearer to the joy of heaven.

In addition, from November 1–8, the faithful may receive the same indulgence each day by visiting a cemetery and praying—even silently—for the dead. Each visit is a profound act of mercy, reminding us of the communion we share with those who have gone before us.

This November, let us embrace this spiritual opportunity to bring hope and healing to our loved ones in purgatory.
