When Jesus, the fulfillment of the promises, looks upon the paralytic, He confronts the root cause of suffering: “Your sins are forgiven you” (Luke 5:20). His merciful gaze, when it rests upon a repentant heart, brings life to what was dead and healing to what was broken. So let us open our hearts to Jesus’ power to strengthen and heal us at Confession.
